CLP chief laments lack of confidence in breakthroughs made by local scientists on GM
CropLife Philippines Executive Director Ramon Abadilla has lamented the seeming lack of confidence of our countrymen in the gains of biotechnology in agriculture and said that other countries appreciate the strides made through research and development.
Abadilla made the statement after the recent field visit of members of the Pan-Asia Farmers Exchange Program to set benchmarks on stringent, science-based regulatory processes ensuring the safety of biotech crops for humans, animals, and the environment. “Sa totoo lang, it’s ironic that other countries want to learn from us and yet, we do not trust the gains that we made through biotechnology and how it can positively address issues on food security, climate change, and health. These are all supported by years of study. Mas bilib pa sila sa atin kaysa sa sarili nating mga kababayan.” Abadilla commented on the heels of the moratorium on the GMO crops GT Eggplant and Golden Rice that was ordered by the Court of Appeals in Manila.
